The theory test must be taken and passed before an application can be made for your practical driving test. The theory test costs £30.00 and all the theory questions are based on the highway code, the test consists of 50 multiple choice questions, you must answer 43 or more correctly for a pass. The test is completed on a touch screen computer.

The hazard perception test is the second part of the theory test, you will also need to pass this part of the test, both parts must be completed and passed at the same sitting, before your practical test can be applied for. This test uses a points system, with 75 points maximum score, you will need to score at least 44 to pass this part of the test. This test comprises of short video clips and you need to identify the hazard or hazards as soon as possible.

If only one part of the test results in a pass then the overall result will be a fail. Special arrangements can be made for those with a disability. The nearest theory test centre is Milton Keynes.

The practical test, the nearest test centre is Bletchley, the cost of the test is £56.50 and lasts approximately 40 minutes, you will be given your result at the end of the test, there is also a further charge for the use of the driving school car, this fee is for 2 hours which includes the one hour warm up lesson , use of the car for the test and return home afterwards, it is a seperate charge from the driving test fee.
